The U.S. State Department said Secretary Antony J. Blinken called Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Raychelle Omamo on Tuesday to discuss the longstanding and important strategic partnership between the United States and Kenya.

During the call, Secretary Blinken lauded Kenya’s strong and durable multilateral engagement and welcomed the opportunity to work closely with Kenya on the United Nations Security Council on issues of international concern and enjoined the Kenyan government to work with the U.S. to address with the current evolving crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, particularly in light of recent reports of atrocities and a worsening humanitarian situation.

The Secretary also underscored U.S.’ commitment to working with Kenya to advance shared interests in trade, democracy, human rights, global health, regional security, and climate change for the benefit of the American and Kenyan people.
