Ivorian Acting Prime Minister Patrick Achi, who has been serving in that role since the illness and untimely sudden death of Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko earlier this month, has been formally elevated by President Alassante Quattara to fill the vacancy left by the deceased.

The Stanford-educated Achi, 65, who is the third person to serve in the role within a  year, is a close and trusted advisor of President Quattara, and previously served as Secretary General to the President.

Before that, Achi was Minister of Economic Infrastructure.

Prime Minister Achi is expected to form a new government immediately.
