Global satellite services provider, Intelsat, said Wednesday it has named Brian Jakins the company’s Regional Vice President of Sales in Africa, effective immediately.

Mr. Jakins, who joins Intelsat from Aviat Networks, a networking solution provider, come to the company with two decade of experience in the technology industry both in enterprises and mobile operators. He will lead the company’s sales team in the region and will help design, implement a sale strategy to support the growth of the company’s broadband, mobile and media customers across Africa.

He will report to Jean-Philippe Gillet, Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa and will be based in Johannesburg.

Mr. Gillet said Mr. Jakins’ proven record of developing strong customer relationship and delivering innovative solutions that have angled telecommunications companies in Africa grow their business in the most cost-efficient manner and his expertise and understanding of the opportunities facing media and broadband customers in Africa will be essential as the company prepares to launch its next generation of satellite product for the African markets, Interlsat 33a

“I look forward to working closely with Brian and his team as Interlsat brings new satellite solutions to Africa that will deliver the higher performance and improved economics necessary to allow customers in the region to meet changing content distribution and broadband demands, and capitalize on the fast-growing new applications coming to markets,” said Jean-Philppe Gillet.

Mr. Jakins has also previously held senior sales management posts at companies such as Alcatel Lucent, Siemens telecommunications and Wireless Data Services South Africa.
