President Donald J. Trump Wednesday signed a proclamation in the Oval Office officially designating May 8 as World World II Victory Day.

Trump, who previously announced his intent to designate May 8 as Victory Day in a social media post last week, asking What is Victory Day in USA? before stating that many U.S. allies and friends celebrate Victory Day, but the U.S. did more than any other country, by far, in producing a victory results on World War II. “I am hereby remaining May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I.”

The American President signed the proclamation during the swearing-in ceremony of David Purdue as U.S. Ambassador to China by Secretary Marco Rubio.

Victory Day known in Europe as VE Day is commemorated across UK and Europe as the day Germany’s Armed Forces officially surrendered WW II allies, after Nazi leader Adolf Hitler had committed suicide on April 30, ending the war.
