The Johannesburg Stock Exchange has launched a JSE Exchange Hub in Cape Town to strengthen the significant role that the City of Cape Town plays in helping build South Africa’s Capital Markets.

The establishment of a JSE Exchange Hub Cape Town will enable the exchange to further improve services to clients in the city and build new relationships as the city becomes an increasingly focal competitive destination for business and investment in South Africa.

As a major center for global and local institutional investors as well as listed companies, including top multinational firms and JSE Top 40 index such as British American Tobacco (BAT), Capitec Bank, Mediclinic, Naspers, Remgro, Shoprite Holdings, Sanlam and Woolworths, the move is part of the JSE’s strategy to stay competitive and improve relations with the community and clients.

The city serves as a major entrance for several multinational companies that are looking for business and investment opportunities both in South Africa and across Africa.

“Cape Town is the second largest economic hub in South Africa, and the head office base of many institutional clients and an increasing number of JSE member firms and brokers,” JSE Director of Capital Markets Donna Nemer reiterates.

Nemer added that the JSE Exchange Hub Cape Town will further support the investor community, especially with such a large part of the fund management industry based in the city, with a dedicated team focused and trained to deal with customer-service problems more efficiently and to better understand client needs.

Maryke Vreulink, JSE Senior Capital Markets Specialist has been chosen to head the new office.
The JSE Hub will also be used for all JSE-related activities and events held in Cape Town, Nemer said.
