The United States has banned current Malawian Special Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs Uladi Basikolo Mussa and his family from traveling or entering into the U.S.

The Department of States issued the ban on Wednesday publicly designating Mr. Mussa, a former Malawian Minister of Home Affairs and his wife, Cecillia Mussa from traveling to the U.S. due to Mr. Mussa’s significant involvement in corruption during his former role as Minister of Home Affairs.

The State Department stated that it has credible information that shows Mr. Mussa “engaged in and benefited from public corruption in relation to his official duties when he was Minister of Home Affairs.”

The ban was issued under Section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Act of 2019. Section 7031(c) which provides in cases where the Secretary of State sees that foreign officials have been involved in significant corruption or gross violations of human rights, those individuals and their immediate family members are ineligible for entry into the United States.”
